James "Jimmy" Joseph Lappat, 51, of Sedalia passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 at University Hospital, Columbia.

He was born December 22, 1961, in Sedalia, a son of Cecil G. Lappat, who preceded him in death and Maxine (Shoemaker) Lappat, who survives of Sedalia.

Jimmie worked with his father in the auto body repair business. He enjoyed being outdoors; hunting, fishing, flower gardening and watching the birds. Jimmie especially enjoyed building model airplanes out of wood. He also had several little dogs who were never far from his side.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his companion and best friend of 25 years, Lillie Monteer of the home; two step sons, Jamie (LaCrista) Barnett and Christopher Barnett all of Sedalia; a sister, Cheryl (Fredrick) Curry, of Otterville; three brothers, Mark (Colleen) Lappat, Kerry (Yvonne) Lappat, and Jerry Lappat all of Sedalia; aunts and uncles, Dorothy Blain, Beverly and Paul Parker, William and Marg Evans all of Sedalia and Louise Mustain, of Oshkosh, WI; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life gathering with friends and family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Rea Funeral Chapel. Wayne Curry will conduct a time of sharing stories and memories.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Sedalia Animal Shelter in care of the funeral chapel.
