James Ralph “Jim” Hamilton, 92, of Sedalia, died Friday, October 4, 2013, at his home.

He was born June 16, 1921, in LaMonte, a son of the late Ben Holmes and Mary Norman (Berry) Hamilton. On September 22, 1940, in Sedalia, he was married to Anne Raines, who survives of the home.

He was raised and educated in LaMonte and attended Birmingham Southern University. He was employed the Missouri Pacific Shops for 14 years, for a brief time had a home improvement business, was an insurance agent with Farmers Insurance Group for 18 years, was a real estate agent, farmed and raised cattle prior to his retirement. Jim served as Presiding Commissioner of Pettis County from 1987-1991. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 16, Masonic Lodge 236, A.F. & A.M. Sedalia Scottish Rite, York Rite, was a former director of the Sedalia Shrine Club and Fun Kor. He was a long time member of the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Janet Ann Butler, and her husband, Keith, of Independence; two granddaughters, Anne Proctor and Amy Miller; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, James Duane Hamilton, and a sister, Helen E. Perkins.

Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Page officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by VFW Post 2591.

The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, Tuesday, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with a Masonic service at 7 pm.
