Janice Elaine Shireman, 60, of Sedalia passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Fair View Nursing Home in Sedalia, MO.  She was born on September 13, 1955 in Sedalia the daughter of James and Betty (Peterson) Newland, who both have preceded her in death.

On April 12, 1974, she was united in marriage to Richard D. Shireman, who survives of the home.

Janice graduated from Northwest High School, Hughesville in 1973 and received her Associates degree from SFCC.  She worked for the Division of Family Services in Sedalia and Warrensburg for 23 years, retiring in 2014.  Janice enjoyed going to Branson and Silver Dollar City. She loved quilting, being outside planting her flowers in the springtime, and was an avid NASCAR (Jeff Gordon) fan. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Besides her husband, Richard, she is survived by two children, Kevin Shireman (Lora) of La Monte, MO and Sara Shireman of Sedalia; five grandchildren, Mason, Taylor, Wyatt, Drake, and Caliann; a brother, Thomas Newland of Sedalia.

Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by a brother, James L. Newland.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Rea Funeral Chapel with Rev. Doug Fritts officiating.

There will be no family visitation, however friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alan Meyer, Archie Shireman, Dick Klein, Lloyd Shireman, Mason Shireman and Travis Shireman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the family to begin a scholarship fund for her grandchildren.
