John A. “Jack” Farraer Jr. 80

John A. “Jack” Ferraer, Jr. 80, of Sedalia, died Monday, August 5, 2013.

Born November 22, 1932 in West Orange, New Jersey, he was the son of the late John Allyn Ferraer, Sr. and Elsie Veronica (Gosswiler) Ferraer. On August 16, 1953 in Roselle, NJ he married Norma L. Tomchak, who survives of the home.

Mr. Ferraer joined the United States Air Force in July 1951 and completed basic training at Sampson AFB in New York. He attended Cook and Baker School and was stationed in San Francisco, CA, then on to Greenville, S.C., Ft. Benning GA, Ft. Bragg, Pope AFB North Carolina and Charleston S.C. He then had a short tour of duty in Japan before returning to the states and assigned to Seymore Johnson in Goldsboro, N.C. in 1959 he was assigned to Chambley AFB in France, and in 1963 was assigned to Whiteman AFB. He then had two tours of duty in Vietnam, and later retired from active duty as a Master Sergeant-1^st Sergeant on July 31, 1971. During his time in the service, he trained reservists in food service field operations and opened all the missile site launch control facility kitchens throughout the state of Missouri. He had hotel and club training in Wiesbaden, Germany and served as club manager at Chambley Air Base in France and Whiteman AFB. He held the rank of 1^st Sergeant at Whiteman AFB and in Vietnam. He also trained in munition maintenance at Lawry AFB in Denver, CO. Jack went on to work at CMSU as food service coordinator, a Police Officer with Charles Norman in Knob Noster, MO for 10 years, attaining the rank of Sergeant, Village Chevrolet in Warrensburg, Food Services Director for 10 years at Ridge Crest Adult care Center in Warrensburg, and Gate Energy Products/ Hawker Energy for 5 years. He retired again in 1996, only to go to work for O.A.T.S. as a driver. Jack was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, 40&8, VFW 2591, and Knights of Columbus Council 831 and Fr. Tony Kraff Assembly 576.

Also surviving are a son, Raymond John Ferraer and wife Dee, of Warrensburg; a daughter Vicky Ann Brant and husband Phillip, of Knob Noster; one sister, Sister Mary A. Ferraer S.S.J, of Chestnut Hill, PA; four grandchildren, Jenny Silk, Jeremy Brant, Kelly Gleason and Alyssa McAllister; and ten great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son Thomas George Ferraer in 1972.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Friday, August 9, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev James Betzen officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Pallbearers will be Roger Brant, Larry Bolton, Richard Brant, Jeremy Brant, Dustin Silk and Tyler Silk. Following services, cremation will take place and he will be laid to rest in Knob Noster Cemetery.
