John Cecil “Pete” Stober, 84, of Sedalia, passed away, Monday, January 7, 2013 at his home.  He was born on December 22, 1928, in Malta Bend, MO, a son of Ray and Stella Mae (Faris) Stober.

On February 18, 1951, he was united in marriage to Mary Millam, who survives of the home.

He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening and hunting. Pete served as an ordained Baptist deacon for sixty years and gladly served the Lord throughout his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Sedalia.  Pete served his country honorably in the US Army.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Deborah (Dennis) Orr of Warrensburg, Gregg (Jana) Stober of Blue Springs, Brad (Grace) Stober of Lumberton, NJ, Dianne Stober (Ben Slocumb) of Fort Collins, CO and Trent (Jennifer) Stober of Columbia; one sister, Daphene Lockard of Branson; four brothers, Morris (Helen) Stober of Sweet Springs, Paul (Sarah) Stober of Sweet Springs, Donnie (Jackie) Stober of Valley View, TX and Scott (Linda) Stober of Leeton; one sister-in-law, Louise Stober; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Eva Stober and one brother, Dwayne Stober.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday, January 11, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Sedalia, with Rev. Francis O’Donnell and Rev. Ted Burden officiating.

Pallbearers will be David Lake, Dave Hagebusch, Mike Smethers, Bruce Gabriel, Ron Cunningham and Mike Dawes.

Honorary bearers will be Phil Bishop, Tom Klein, Jim Edwards, Ralph Huff, Ned Monsees, Ron Lane and the deacons of First Baptist Church, Sedalia.

Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at First Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Bothwell Hospice, First Baptist Church or Susan O’Brien Fischer Cancer Center, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
