John Emery Main, 73, of La Monte passed away, Friday, May 10, 2013 at Bothwell Regional Health Center.  He was born on September 4, 1939, in Decatur, IA, a son of James and Zelma (Gochenouer) Main.

On February 23, 1963 he was united in marriage to Barbara (Strain), who survives of the home.

He gave lots of time, attention and help to many friends.  He was a great husband, father and grandpa. John served as Mayor of La Monte for 2 years.  He was a member of the La Monte American Legion Post #520, Knights of Columbus, American Vets and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sedalia.  He served his country honorably in the US Air Force for 20 years, retiring as a SMGST.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, Patricia Ann Bell and Christina Marie Braxton; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Daniel, Megan and Dylan; one great grandson, Elijah; one sister, Ella Mae Hunter; four brothers, Jerry (Yvonne) King, James (Jeanne Northrup) Main, Richard (Ann) Main and Ronald (Darla) Main.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jeffrey Allan Main. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sedalia with Father James Betzen, C.PP.S officiating.

Burial will be at La Monte Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by La Monte American Legion Post #520.

Pallbearers will be Mike Hawk, Mike Beecher, Art Borgmeyer, Charles Gerke, Gerald Wiltz and Kent Korthas.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.  Rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial donations are suggested to The American Cancer Society in care of the funeral chapel.
