John J. Menefee, 86, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.

Born March 27, 1929 in Sedalia, he was a son of the late Eldred and Mary E. Dugan Menefee. On October 14, 1950 in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Gayle Grace Scruton, who preceded him in death on March 27, 2000.

Mr. Menefee was raised and educated in Sedalia, and was secretary and treasurer for the Menefee Construction Company. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Surviving are three sons, John J. Menefee Jr. of Grain Valley, Kevin J. Menefee of Sedalia and Matthew W. Menefee of Shawnee, KS; three daughters, Kathryn J. Scott (Richard) of Lamar, MO, Laura A. Stellmacher (Scott) of Fon du Lac, WI and Mary M. Jones (Kyle) of Webb City; two brothers, James Menefee of Sedalia and Tony Menefee of Branson; four sisters, Elizabeth O’Dowd of St. Louis, Mary Ann Donelson of Springfield, Patricia Menefee of Laguna, CA and Rosie Ressel of Olathe, KS; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Mark and Michael Menefee; a daughter, Diane E. Callahan; and two brothers, E.W. “Bill” Menefee and Terrance “Terry” Menefee.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m. with visitation to follow until service time Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to Sacred Heart Church or School, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
