John Leslie Brewer, 61, of Lamar, formerly of Cole Camp, died Friday, September 20, 2013, at Barton County Memorial Hospital, Lamar.  He was born on April 18, 1952, at Haywarden, Iowa, a son of Lyle and Phyllis (Dewey) Brewer.

In 1970, he graduated from Golden City High School.  On August 25, 1973, in Methodist Church in Stover, he was united in marriage to Deborah Ellen Craig, who preceded him in death on June 17, 2009.

He had worked as a sub-contractor for Finley Engineering.  In 1985, he went to work for United Telephone, which was later acquired by Sprint.  While working for Sprint, he mapped out the fiber optic infrastructure throughout several states, retiring in 2009. In 2001, he and his family moved to Rhome, Texas.  In 2011, he moved with his children to Lamar, MO.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cole Camp.

He is survived by:one daughter, Jessica Brewer of Lamar; one son, Justin Brewer of Lamar;two brothers, Ralph Brewer and his wife Anna and Joe Brewer, all of Golden City; and his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Mary Ellen Craig of Stover.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Phyllis Brewer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cole Camp, with  Pastor Michael Boothby officiating.  Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cole Camp.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.

Pallbearers will be Mike Heimsoth, Burton Bormann, Nick Jenkins, Craig Augat, Jeff Taylor, Jim Witte, and McCoy Ingalls.  Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Craig, Harold Brewer, Charlie Mazzarella, and John Divine.
