Kansas City Man Pleads Guilty in 2-Year-Old Boy’s Death

A Kansas City man was sentenced to 23 years in prison after pleading guilty in the child abuse death of a 2-year-old boy.

Jackson County prosecutors said 24-year-old Mirsad Hamidovic pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder and abuse of neglect of a child for the death of Lorenzo Estrada. He had been scheduled to go to trial next week.

Kansas City police say the boy was found at an apartment suffering from severe injuries in January 2015. He died the next day from head and brain injuries.

Hamidovic was watching the boy while his mother worked. He now faces the possibility of deportation after serving his prison sentence.
