It's tough when you're just starting out. As the school year winds down, the job market will be flooded with recent college graduates looking to begin their lives outside the classroom. WalletHub has released its 2016 national report on the best cities in America for starting a new career. It turns out that some of the cities in our state did pretty well on the list, with Kansas City coming in as the highest-ranking city in Missouri.

According to WalletHub, Kansas City is the 36th on the nationwide list, coming in just ahead of St. Louis, which was 39th. Overland Park, Kansas came in 40th, and Springfield, Missouri also made the list, finishing in 75th place. Overall, 150 cities across the nation were ranked.

"We used 17 key metrics to determine the relative strength of their job markets as well as the attractiveness of their social scenes and other factors important to job-market entrants," said WalletHub.

The best place to start a career in 2016, according to the list, is Salt Lake City, Utah. Detroit finished in last place. The highest-ranking city in the Midwest was Sioux Falls in 4th place, followed by Minneapolis in 5th.
