Kansas City Woman Sentenced to 20 Years in Quarry Killing
A Kansas City woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in the death of a man who was found dead at an eastern Missouri quarry.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that 33-year-old Cassandra Johnston was sentenced Monday for voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in the death of 55-year-old Edward Jefferson.
Workers at the Danville Quarry in Montgomery County found Jefferson's body in the parking lot in 2011. An autopsy showed he died of a gunshot wound to the head.
The case was retried this spring in Boone County on a change of venue after Johnston's 2013 convictions for first-degree murder and armed criminal action were overturned. A tampering conviction from the first trial remained, and she'll spend another seven years in prison for it.
