State Fair Community College sophomore guard Jazzmyn Elston played with and against the top 40 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) women’s basketball players in the country at the 10th Annual NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Weekend on July 26-29 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The student-athletes were divided into four teams. They practiced on Friday and played one game on Saturday and Sunday. Coaches from four-year schools observed players during individual workouts as well as in team play.

Elston, a Rossville, Georgia, native, helped her team to a 1-1 record at the event. She scored 12 points in the first game.

“Jazzmyn said she had a great time at the event,” said Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “Hopefully, this will help in her recruitment. She was able to show what she can do in front of many coaches. We have already had one university call us and request more information. Jazzmyn’s performance at the all-star weekend will help get more recruiters on campus to watch her and our other players.”

As a freshman, Elston was named to the NJCAA All-Region 16 second team and the MCCAC all-conference second team. Elston played in 29 games and started in 15. She averaged 12.6 points per game, which placed her third on the team. She shot 45.8 percent from the field and 37.1 from the three-point line.

“I am pleased the event went well for Jazzmyn and that she had a good time,” said Bucher. “It was a chance for her to represent State Fair and Sedalia. Now she is back taking classes and getting ready for her sophomore season.”
