Leonard Walter Howery, 82, of Ionia, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Cole Camp.  He was born on December 2, 1931, on the family farm near Ionia, Missouri, a son of Walter Green and Eula B. (Pittman) Howery.

He attended Manila school through the 8th grade, and helped on the family farm.  While farming, he hauled bulk feed and ran a milk route.  On October 15, 1950, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Ella Fern Miller.  This union was blessed with the gift of eight children:  Ellen, Wayne, Kathy, Larry, Sharon, Debbie, Lisa, and Brenda.

Leonard was a member of United Methodist Church in Ionia and was baptized on June 5, 2014.  He enjoyed farming, playing cards and Chinese checkers.

He is survived by:
five daughters, Ellen Nations and her husband Johnny of Windsor, Kathy Meyer and her husband John of Cole Camp, Sharon Scott and her husband Dale of Windsor, Lisa Singleton and her husband Craig of Blue Springs, and Brenda Young and her husband Don of Illinois;
two sons, Wayne Howery and his wife Elaine of Sedalia and Larry Howery and his wife Ellen of Sedalia;
one sister, Eunice Friedly of Sedalia;
thirteen grandchildren, Shelley Ebeling, Ryan Nations, Ashley Harris, Andrea Bonner, Jamey Meyer, Chad Howery, Jennifer Waddell, Adam Scott, Tim Murray, Kelsey Singleton, Zackery Singleton, Rachel Young, and Hallie Young; and
fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Fern Howery on January 3, 1996, his parents, Walter and Eula Howery, and a daughter, Debbie Murray.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp, with Pastor Donna Nichols officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Ionia United Methodist Church or Good Samaritan Care Center in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Ebeling, Ryan Nations, Jamey Meyer, Chad Howery, Adam Scott, Zack Singleton, Charles Elliott, Brian VonHolten, Wayne Ebeling, Dick Rupe, and Glen Miesner.
