LeRoy Jason Smith age 82 of Sedalia died on August 8, 2015 at Fair View Nursing Home in Sedalia. He was born on November 16, 1932 in San Bernardino, California son of Roland Frank and Alice Christina Sawyer Smith.

He met his future wife Lola Ewers and they were married on Christmas Eve in 1952 at the Christian Church in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin and have celebrated sixty-two years together. LeRoy graduated from high school in San Bernardino, California. He then attended the Minnesota Bible College. He was drafted into the Army in May of 1953 and served in Korea.

When he was on his way overseas the Armistice was signed. After the service he moved to Wisconsin and worked for the Wisconsin Power and Light as a consumer service representative. After retiring they moved to Lincoln, Illinois where he sold real estate for six years.

After retiring again they moved to Sedalia to be near the children and grandchildren. LeRoy was always willing to help people. Earlier in life he served on the school board in Spring Green, Wisconsin. He was a church elder and taught Sunday School in Wisconsin. He enjoyed singing and had a beautiful voice.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son; James Smith (Elisha) of Monticello, IL, four daughters: Esther Avery (John) of Chattanooga, TN, Melinda Smith of Lincoln, IL, Brenda Sowers (Dave) of Moberly, MO, Amy Elvers (Dale) of Sedalia, MO, one sister; Pat Reed and family of Ninnekah, OK, two brothers: Eugene Smith and family of Ontario, CA, Burton Smith and family of Alta Loma, CA, three sister-in-laws; Phyllis France (Robert J.) of Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin, Rita Ewers and Judy Ewers both of Wisconsin, eight grandchildren; Rebecca Frey (Darin), Marie Sowers, Jonathan Sowers, Nathan Sowers, John Mark Avery, Cody Elvers, Samantha Elvers, Esther Joella Smith, and a great grandson; Winston Frey. There are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday and from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. service time Tuesday at Parkview Christian Church with Rev. Rodney Brown officiating. The body was cremated. Arrangements by Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home.
