A lot of people in our area are well aware of all the good work the Girl Scouts do in our area. And you might know about the high honor a Boy Scout can achieve; the Eagle Scout. But did you know about the Silver Award for the Girl Scouts? The Silver Award is the second highest award of the Girl Scouts of the USA. Only Cadette Scouts ages 11–14 or in grade 6-8 can earn it.  It’s a long, hard journey to get this award, and girls must complete a Cadette Journey prior to beginning their project. Once the journey is completed, girls must complete a 50 hour service project that leaves a lasting impact on the community. That’s where this big event this weekend comes in. The Girl Scouts of Sedalia are working to earn their Silver Award. They will be hosting a pet adoption with the Humane Society on Saturday, May 31 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Liberty Park. I got to talk with several of the girls – Samantha Elvers, Erika Tackett, and Alexis Bassett.  They and several others are hoping to earn their Silver Awards.  We talked about the adoption event, and what you can do to help them help Pettis County and the Sedalia area.

The Girl Scouts of Sedalia are working to earn their Silver Award and they need your help.  They will be hosting a pet adoption with the Humane Society on Saturday, May 31 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Liberty Park, Shelter House 1.  Stop by, say hello  and maybe take home a new best friend. If you’re not ready to adopt, they’ll accept donations of food or money or anything else the shelter might need. You know you’ll feel amazing having helped these great girls on the journey to get their Silver Award – and you’re doing something good for yourself, too! You’ll be making a difference in the animal’s life, the Sedalia area, and with these great girls who are the leaders of tomorrow.

Adoptingly yours,

Behka
