‘Looper’ Debuts New Animated Trailer in Time for Its Premiere

Sony has been doing a bang-up job building awareness for Rian Johnsonâs âLooper,â which finally opens in theaters on Friday, September 28 after what feels like months of anticipation. Johnson and his team stopped at WonderCon, Comic-Con and helped open this yearâs Toronto International Film Festival with his time-bending thriller. But you really havenât seen anything until youâve seen the new animated trailer for the film. Check it out below.
There isnât a lot in the 90-second animated clip that we havenât already seen (or wouldnât yet see) in a âLooperâ trailer. Itâs actually more amazing how much the teaser is able to convey about the film using no words and only starkly brushed animation. The technique reminds us of the Richard Linklater feature âWaking Life,â from 2001. Is it possible Johnson was inspired by the deep-though animation drama? That would be something new.
Hereâs what you probably know about âLooperâ already: It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a futuristic hit man who eliminates victims sent to him from a dangerous future. But problems arise when his next target ends up being the futuristic version of himself (played by Bruce Willis).
âLooperâ opens on September 28. Weâve been telling you this for months, and we mean it — see it as soon as it opens. You wonât be disappointed.
