A Kansas City, Missouri, man is accused of causing the chase-related death of a man authorities say helped him burglarize a home.

Jackson County prosecutors charged 23-year-old Rodney Rodgers with involuntary manslaughter in the September death of Terrance Gates. Rodgers also is charged with attempted robbery, burglary, resisting a lawful stop, leaving an accident scene, armed criminal action, unlawful firearms possession, and driving with a suspended license.

Authorities say Rodgers and Gates forced their way into a home and confronted the resident at gunpoint before fleeing without taking anything.

While being followed by police, Rodgers lost control of the car, crashed into a tree and fled on foot. Gates died at a hospital.

Online court records don't show whether Rodgers has an attorney.
