SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A Springfield man was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the death of a 48-year-old man during a fight over his girlfriend.

Thirty-seven-year-old Robert Sondree was sentenced for voluntary manslaughter in the 2012 death of 48-year-old Bobby L. Newman.

Sondree was originally charged with second-degree murder but was sentenced Friday for the lesser offense after a witness refused to cooperate with prosecutors.

Prosecutors say Sondree confronted Newman after Sondree's girlfriend said Newman had assaulted her.

Newman died from blunt force trauma caused by falling and hitting his head during the argument.
