Mary Jane Alfrey, 92, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014, at her home.

She was born March 10, 1921, in Watertown, S.D., daughter of Carl and Fern Knapp Danley. On August 31, 1940, in Sedalia, she married Samuel Earl “Jack” Alfrey, who preceded her in death on October 29, 2011.

Mrs. Alfrey was a 1937 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. As a teenager she worked at Garst's Drive-in, where she met her husband. She was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder, the Manila and Quisenberry Community Clubs, Sorosis, was a 4-H leader and had been involved in extension clubs. She and Jack went RV camping in Sun City, AZ, for more than 30 years. She enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, reading and loved taking care of her grandchildren.

Surviving are four children: Gaylon Alfrey (Mary), of Sedalia, Sandra Butts, of Spokane, WA, Mick Alfrey, of Sedalia, and Dean Alfrey (Cheri), of Smithville, MO; nine grandchildren: Galynne Riggenbach, Jason Alfrey, Tammy Jackson, Diana Eckhoff, Greg Houk, Lee Houk, Carmen Sheedy, Dana Hurley and Travis Alfrey; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Milton, Milford and Delbert Danley.

Memorial services will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rob Hughes officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, in Crown Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice.
