Max Elmer Birdsong, 81, of Sedalia passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at his home. He was born on January 31, 1933 in Beaman, MO a son of E.L. “Red” and Erma (Kimsey) Birdsong.

In Sedalia, on September 5, 1954 he was united in marriage to JoAnn McMullin, who survives of the home.

He worked out of Smithton Post office for 25 years as a rural mail carrier.  Max enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and hunting with family and gardening.  He loved telling stories, writing poems and playing cards. He was a member of American Legion Post 642 and Katy Park Baptist Church and involved in church ministry.  Max served his country honorably in the US Air Force during the Korean War.

Besides his wife he is survived by his four children, Peggy Maxey and her husband Bill of Chamois, MO, Kelly Birdsong of Sedalia, Danny Birdsong and his wife Carla of Sedalia, Kate Smith and her husband Bob of Holts Summit, MO; ten grandchildren, Janie Weeks, Tiffany Feldman, Zachary Feldman, Kristin Klinger, Becky Maxey, Jennifer Bassham, Cory Birdsong, Jason Williams, Alicia Williams and Max Smith; eight great grandchildren, Joey, Kurt and Maggie Weeks, Willow Klingler, Nathan Phillips, Nadia and Natalie Bassham and Tate Williams.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Candace Williams; two brothers, James and Jack Birdsong; one sister, Helen Rollins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Katy Park Baptist Church, Sedalia with Rev. Jon Church officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

Burial will be at Potter Cemetery, rural Sedalia.

Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 2591.

Pallbearers will be Zachary Feldman, Jason Williams, Cory Birdsong, Max Smith, Jay Rollins and Dan Breedan.

Honorary bearers will be Bob Smith, Bob Asbury, Bob Paul, Bill Maxey, Don Wilson, Mitch Walker, Kevin Hepburn, Steve Bussey and Ron Rollins.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Katy Park Baptist Church Parking Lot Fund or Bothwell Hospice in care of Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia.
