Melvin Eugene (Butch) Phillips age 69 of Sedalia died on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.

He was born on October 11, 1945 in Sedalia, son of Allen DeWitt and Ruth Hazel Gray Phillips. On August 28, 1966 in Georgetown he married Susan M. Alexander and she survives of the home.

He graduated from Houstonia High School. He then served in the Army during the Vietnam Era where he received the Army Commendation Medal and a Bronze Star. After the service he graduated from Central Missouri State College. He was a field engineer working for National Cash Register. He was a member of the Hughesville Baptist Church. He enjoyed drag racing and also his dogs.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son; Pete Phillips of Hughesville, one daughter; Robin Henley (Ryan) of Gardner, Kansas, one sister; Wanda Isaac of Sedalia,six grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, one brother James Phillips and a daughter-in-law Lynn Marie Phillips.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 20, 2015 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Cripe officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Junior Sleeper, Mark Stockhurst, Tommy Andrews, Ryan Henley, John Munroe and Gary Sleeper. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery northeast of Sedalia. There will be full military rites at graveside by V.F.W. Post 2591 of Sedalia. Memorials my be given to the donor's choice. You may leave condolences online at ewingschuttesemlerfh.com
