Several school districts have canceled classed as a winter storm makes driving conditions slippery across parts of Missouri.

Winter weather advisories are in effect from Wednesday night through Thursday across portions of western and southern Missouri. Forecasters are predicting a mix of freezing drizzle, light snow and sleet.

Several districts in the southern part of the state were canceling classes, including those in Alton, Ava, Bakersfield and Cabool.

Authorities say numerous vehicles slide off snow-packed roads. The Missouri State Highway Patrol worked weather related injury crashes Wednesday near Chillicothe, Bethany and several other communities.

Drivers were urged to use caution.
