Missouri Lt. Governor Parson to Visit SFCC March 30
Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Parson will visit State Fair Community College at 3:30 p.m. March 30 to tour the projects that were funded by the Missouri Legislature in 2015 for capital improvements at colleges and universities.
The visit will begin in the Hopkins Student Services Center Board Room, and the public is invited to attend.
SFCC was allocated $1,994,724 for seven repair and renovation projects on the Sedalia campus. The funds paid for energy efficient window installations, HVAC modifications and replacements, foundation and roof repairs, exterior and interior repairs and renovations, and the installation of an ADA accessible elevator in the Hopkins Student Services Center. Some of the projects are still in progress.
Lt. Gov. Parson also will tour SFCC’s technical program facilities and classrooms and learn about the college’s Building Strong Futures plan to provide students more career opportunities and Missouri’s workforce with more skilled employees.
The plan is to build a 116,000-square-foot technical education facility to provide additional space for current programs, noncredit training and workforce development, and planned new programs in diesel technology, agriculture mechanics and HVAC/advanced environmental systems.
The improvements also will increase space for the State Fair Career and Technology Center that provides technical training to area high school juniors and seniors.
To fund the new technical education facility and program expansions, SFCC has a bond measure on the April 4 general municipal election. Voters who are part of the college’s taxing district will determine the college’s ability to proceed with the current plan.
