A Missouri man has admitted to participating in the stabbing death of a man whose body was dumped in a river.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports that Primalton Peterson III pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder before the first full day of testimony in his trial began.

Kelli Hoard, of Elwood, Kansas, and Sean Liechti, of St. Joseph, previously pleaded guilty in the April 2015 killing of Richard Berry. The body of the 28-year-old was found in the Third Fork of the Platte River near Easton.

Buchanan County Prosecutor Dwight Scroggins said Peterson didn't have a plea agreement. He had turned down a plea bargain last year. Peterson also pleaded guilty to felony counts of armed criminal action and abandonment of a corpse.

Sentencing is set for March 7.
