JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri Department of Transportation worker has been honored for saving a woman from a burning home while he was plowing snow last month.

The state Highways and Transportation Commission says Micah Lasley was plowing in the central Missouri town of Calwood on Feb. 10 when he saw an elderly man standing in a front yard.

Lasley stopped and the man said his wife still was inside their burning home. Lasley went inside, carried the woman out and called 911.

The state commission presented Lasley its Meritorious Safety Award on Wednesday. Officials say they learned of the situation when the couple's niece reported Lasley's action to MoDOT.
