Missouri State Fair Director Receives Honorary American FFA Degree

Mark Wolfe, Missouri State Fair Director, recently received an Honorary American FFA Degree.  The award recognizes individuals who have provided exceptional service to agriculture, agriculture education or FFA.

Director Wolfe was one of six Missourians recognized with the award during the 2012 National FFA Convention.  He was nominated last spring and submitted for national consideration by the Missouri FFA Association.

“The Missouri State Fair provides an outstanding opportunity for all ages while continuing to be our state’s premier agricultural event,” said Missouri Director of Agriculture Dr. Jon Hagler. “Director Wolfe has been instrumental in efforts to increase youth involvement during the Fair each August, as well as throughout the year. This honor is well deserved and I am proud to see our FFA members and advisors recognizing him at the national level.”

Director Wolfe has made youth involvement in agriculture his primary focus since assuming the lead position with the Fair in 2009. Under his direction, the Missouri State Fair continues to provide a platform for those interested in developing leadership skills, through participation in livestock shows and competitive exhibits.  More than 6,600 entries were shown by Missouri FFA youth at this year’s annual event.

Wolfe is in the early planning phase for the 2013 agricultural showcase, which will be held Aug. 8-18 in Sedalia.
