JEFFERSON CITY – State Treasurer Clint Zweifel (ZWY-ful) today announced his office will participate in the 2015 Missouri State Fair. He will have representatives from MOST–Missouri’s 529 College Savings Program available to answer questions and help families get started saving for college. During the Fair, MOST 529 will be sponsoring a giveaway where one lucky family will win a $529 contribution into a MOST 529 account. Treasurer Zweifel will also have staff to help fairgoers search for and claim their Unclaimed Property.

“The State Fair is a great time for families to experience so many of the things that make Missouri a great place to live and work,” Treasurer Zweifel said. “It is also an opportunity to bring the services my office provides directly to them, answering questions and providing greater access. As the school year ramps back up, now is the perfect time to remind families that small investments over time can add up to make a huge difference on a student’s path to higher education.”

MOST 529 sponsors several promotional giveaways throughout the year to encourage families to save for college. All giveaways use plan marketing funds and are held at no cost to taxpayers. The winner of the $529 MOST 529 account contribution will be notified after the State Fair.

Also at the Fair, Treasurer Zweifel’s team will have a booth to help attendees search for and claim their Unclaimed Property. Last year more than 650 people found $81,000 in Unclaimed Property at the Fair.

“With hundreds of thousands of attendees every year, the State Fair is a perfect place to connect with Missourians and help them find their Unclaimed Property,” Treasurer Zweifel said. “One in 10 Missourians has Unclaimed Property and the average claim is $300. Efforts like this one have led me to return record amounts of Unclaimed Property every year since taking office, and I hope to continue that trend this year.”

The Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property booth will be located in the Agriculture Building and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The MOST 529 booth will be in the Agriculture Building and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The State Fair runs from August 13-23.
