Marshall, Mo. (September 27, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College men’s lacrosse team opened its 2014-2015 season by hosting the second Fall Brawl at Reed Kepner Field.  The Vikings played games against Kansas State University and the University of Missouri, finishing with a 3-0 record on the day.

The Vikings opened the event with an 11-1 in over Missouri.  The Vikings maintained a shutout against the Tigers until Missouri scored with under one minute to play in regulation.  Game two for MVC ended with a shutout victory as the Vikings defeated Kansas State 10-0.  The third game of the afternoon was a rematch against Missouri, but the Tigers led through all of the game.  The Vikings faced a 6-4 deficit with only minutes to play in the game.  MVC was able to tie the game with under one minute to play and got the tying goal just before time expired to send the game into overtime.  MVC was able to win the sudden-death period with a goal and finish with a 7-6 win.

“The guys really played well today and I was proud of the way they came back to win the final game against Missouri,” said Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach Kevin Totaro.  “Our goalkeeping today was great, we had really good faceoff work from Ben Holback that made a difference, and Freshman Owen Sorobey came through in his first game as a Viking with the tying and winning goals against Missouri.”

Totaro added, “We had great weather this year for the event and great turnout and support from family and fans of the program.”

The Vikings are coming off a 2014 season that was the first in program history.  MVC won the GRLC Division II championship and earned a berth into the MCLA Division II National Tournament last season.
