Mommy Madness Submission: “Escape Artist”
Kids have a funny way of being able to escape and find trouble in even the safest homes. What happens when you find your 2-year-old in the middle of the street on your way home?
As a mother of six, there is no end to the stories I could tell about gross, silly or crazy things my children have done. Eating boogers? Been there. Taking off your diaper and peeing on my couch? Done that.
I have two-year-old twin boys. They are my youngest and seem to get into everything. I will never forget the night that I was returning from picking up my daughter from soccer practice. I approached the four-way-stop near my house and prepared to turn onto my street. As I did so, I looked up the street in front of my house and noticed a small figure standing in the middle of the road. It was, of course, one of the twins. Alone.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and jumped out of my car to run after him, grabbing my keys and accidentally setting off my car alarm. He thought it was the funniest thing ever, seeing his mother coming to chase him and took off running through my neighbor’s yard.
I caught him before he could escape, threw his wriggling body over my shoulder, and ran into my house, prepared to kill my husband. It did not take long to figure out that my son got out by busting his way through a screen door. Who would have thought?
Kids. They’ll be the death of me.
Come on, Dad! You had to hear him bust through the screen door! Good thing we have Moms. More Mommy Madness coming soon.
