The Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education on Dec. 17 recognized Smith-Cotton High School senior Katelynn Montgomery as the district’s John T. Belcher Scholarship winner.

As the local winner, Montgomery receives a $250 award from the Sedalia School District Foundation. The Belcher scholarship program provides a $1,000 annual scholarship to a student in each of the Missouri School Boards Association's 17 regions.

According to the MSBA website, "Applicants are judged on the basis of academic performance, extracurricular activities and the quality of an essay.

A statewide winner is selected from this group of regional winners and awarded an additional $1,500." Montgomery is shown here with Board President Dr. Jeffrey Sharp.
