Early Thursday morning, authorities in Morgan County responded to a motor vehicle accident in which a car was partially submerged underwater and a man trapped inside.

A press release from the Morgan County Sheriff's Department indicates the accident occurred on McCasland Road near Highway J. A car had driven off the bridge and was submerging in water.

Deputies arrived and located the vehicle directly underneath the bridge. Deputies then entered the water and extricated an adult male who was trapped inside the car. The press release states the victim was unconscious and bleeding from multiple lacerations.

The victim was moved to shore and authorities performed life-saving medical procedures to stabilize the victim's breathing and stop the bleeding from his legs.

The Gravois Fire assisted in moving the victim to the roadway. He was later flown to University Hospital where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit.

At this time, the victim's name has not been released.
