WACO, Texas -- The Central Missouri Mules football team is receiving votes in the AFCA Division II Coaches' Preseason Poll released on Monday. The Mule tallied 82 points in the poll to rank just outside the top 25, coming in at No. 27.

The Mules finished 6-4 last season after ending the year on a four-game winning streak. UCM opens the 2014 season on Thursday, Sept. 4 in St. Joseph, Missouri against Missouri Western.

Three MIAA teams appear in the preseason top 25. Defending national champion Northwest Missouri is ranked No. 1, Pittsburg State comes in at No. 9 and Emporia State is ranked in a tie for 22nd. The Mules were the top league school receiving votes, followed by Missouri Western with 38 points and Washburn with two points.

Fourteen teams from UCM's region, NCAA-II Super Region 3, are either ranked in the top 25 or receiving votes.
