Neva Irene Skaggs, 94

Neva Irene Skaggs departed this life on August 13, 2015, at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove, MO. She was born May 31, 1921, the daughter of the late Fred Victor and Bessie Florence (Christy) Miers. Irene was 94 at the time of her death.

On June 27, 1943, in Sedalia, MO, she married Virgil H. Skaggs, who survives of the home. Irene was a beautician in Sedalia for many years. They left Sedalia in 1961, as Virgil was a railroad foreman. They returned to Sedalia in 1998, after retirement, to be close to family.

Irene loved to cook and entertain, to sew, and to bowl. She loved to be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irene was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sedalia.

Irene is survived by her husband of 72 years, Virgil; a daughter, Rita Sue (Wayne) Kanenbley, of Syracuse, MO; a son, Richard (Patricia) Skaggs, of Swansea, IL; four grandchildren, Cindy Kanenbley, of Olathe, KS, Lynn (Casey) Jensen, of Olathe, KS, Mark (Lorrie) Kanenbley, of Pleasant Hill, MO, and Jennifer (Charles) O'Hearn, of Florissant, MO. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a niece, Linda (Frank) Yau, of Olathe, KS.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen; and two brothers, Elmer and Marvin.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ted Francis and the Rev. Don Satterwhite officiating.

Casket bearers are grandsons and nephews.

Honorary bearers are Frank and Patsy Gooch, Roy and Elaine Bryson, and Merlin and Bobbi Balke.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
