Having been an inpatient at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran's Hospital, this is great news not only for me but also for other veterans that use the facility.

An open house and ribbon-cutting event celebrating the relocation and expansion of Truman VA’s new Surgical Inpatient Unit will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, January 24. Tours of the new unit also will be available following speaking remarks. The location of the new surgical unit is on the third floor of Truman VA, 800 Hospital Drive, Columbia, Missouri.

The new Surgical Inpatient Unit will move from the sixth to the third floor of Truman VA, increasing in size from 6,900 to 15,300 square feet. The new unit will have 18 rooms, of which two are equipped for bariatric patients. The larger, private patient rooms also will be equipped with leading-edge vital sign monitors for automatic patient data entry, as well as ceiling lifts to safely move patients in and out of their beds and to the restroom. Patient rooms also will have additional space to accommodate furniture for family members who desire extended visits with our Veterans.
