Nurse Pleads Guilty to Fraud Related to Fulton Man’s Death

A nurse has admitted that she did not provide health care services to a developmentally disabled Missouri man for months before his body was found encased in concrete in 2017.

Forty-nine-year-year-old Melissa Denise DeLap, of Columbia, pleaded guilty Monday to health care fraud.

DeLap was contracted to provide health services to four people living at Second Chance Homes in Fulton, including meeting with them in person every month.

One of the four residents was Carl DeBrodie, whose body was discovered in April 2017, months after he went missing from the home. DeLap admitted she signed false reports saying she had met with the four men during the months between DeBrodie's death and the discovery of his body.

DeLap must pay $106,795 in restitution to Medicaid and surrender her nursing license. Sentencing hasn't been scheduled.
