The Open Door Building and Sedalia Senior Center are both serving as cold shelters this week for area residents who are without heat in their homes.

The Open Door Building (Community Cafe) acted as a cold shelter during New's Year's weekend and is continuing to offer the service each night this week for residents to stay the night and stay warm.

The Open Door Building, located at 417 W. Pettis, will be open each evening from 6:00 until morning, January 2 - 5. Weekend plans are still being worked and updates will be provided when plans are solidified.

The Sedalia Senior Center will offer daytime hours for anyone needing a warm place to stay. The Senior Center says the hours are 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday - Friday (January 2 - 5) and the service will continue on weekdays until the temperature is over 40 degrees. The Senior Center is located at 312 S. Washington Ave.
