The Pettis County Ambulance District Board of Directors met with representatives from the Elks Lodge during its regular meeting Tuesday to discuss renewing a lease option on the current PCAD headquarters building.

PCAD has leased the building at Fourth and Kentucky streets for the last three years, making many improvements to turn the former Butternut Building into a headquarters with room for offices, a bunk area, day room and ambulance bay. PCAD Administrator Mike Gardner noted PCAD will likely stay in the building for another three years or so.

“We’re looking at building another satellite station, somewhere in west Pettis County, before we start looking at building our permanent headquarters building,” he told the Elks representatives.

PCAD has purchased land on West 16th Street near the Sedalia Fire Department headquarters to build a permanent station that will serve as both headquarters and education building. The district’s current education building – located diagonally from the current PCAD headquarters – will likely be used as a downtown satellite station.

Elks representatives told PCAD the rent will “definitely” go up for the next lease, as both property taxes and insurance rates have risen on the building, and that they are looking at possibly selling the building in the future to cover expenses.

The PCAD board also discussed the Windsor station, with Gardner noting PCAD has gone on 153 calls for service since taking over for the Windsor Ambulance District in late February. Work is being done on updating the former residential home that will be used as the Windsor station and installing a garage to be used as an ambulance bay.
