Another exciting edition of weekly championship racing is upon racers and fans set to roll in to Central Missouri Speedway this Saturday for Pepsi Night and L.J.S. Graphics Race Night. All four weekly race divisions will race for championship points in USRA Modified, Street Stock, B-Mod, and Pure Stock action.

Last week, Gunner Martin of Independence made a huge statement to any prospective challengers that he is definitely on a mission this year to claim as many main-event wins as he can during USRA Modified competition. Although Martin has two victories, he currently sits third in the standings behind Fulton, Missouri’s Kevin Blackburn, who posted yet another top-three finish last week as a model of consistency. Last year’s champion, Terry Schultz of Sedalia currently holds down second in the standings after last week’s runner-up finish. If you want to see the best USRA Modified drivers competing in the MO-KAN region, CMS is the track for you.

Brett Wood of Warrensburg also secured his second victory of the season last week by claiming the Street Stock main event. Wood is the defending champion in the division and currently sits tied atop the standings with previous feature winner Clayton Campbell of Otterville. Brian Eckhoff’s consistency keeps him high among the leaders as he trails the two leaders tied at the top by a mere 15 points.

A huge turn-out of 30 B-Mods checked in last week for competition in an action-filled night of racing as newcomer Patrick Royalty of Kansas City, Kansas collected the weekly payout of $500-to-win for his first ever CMS trip to victory lane and first ever victory. Troy Carlyle moved to the top of the standings after posting a runner-up finish during last week’s main event. Curtis Berry currently holds down second position followed by Dean Wille.

Pure Stocks also had an action-packed night last week with Larry Norris claiming his first-ever win. Rodger Detherage rides a wave of consistency to the top of this week’s Pure Stock standings with defending champion Jeremiah Wilson slipping to second after he experienced a DNF last week. Amanda Akers has climbed to third overall in the standings.

On Saturday, pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands at 5, driver pill draw cutoff is 6:15 (no passing points awarded if late check-in), pit meeting 6:30, hot laps at 7, and racing begins at 7:30. USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks. Just one more regular race week is scheduled before the first Summer Holiday and Special Events Racing takes place at CMS. Check out www.centralmissourispeedway.net for complete details on the Memorial Day Weekend plan of events, once you land on the site, look for the “Memorial Day Weekend Info” tab, which includes information on purses throughout the weekend, admission prices, start times, and much more.

USRA Modified drivers should take note of the special bonuses offered by promoters Earl and Susan Walls for the big three summer holiday special events. For any driver who wins the Memorial Day $3,000-to-win race and then also wins the Tom Wilson Memorial over Independence Day weekend, and then goes on to win the $3,000-to-win race later in the year over Labor Day weekend, they will earn a $5,000 bonus for the clean sweep! If you add the base purse “to win” money for the three events together it totals $11,000, now add on another $7,500 in bonus money and that totals a whopping possible $18,500 going to a driver who sweeps all three events. However, there’s still a $2,500 bonus for any driver that doubles up and wins any two of the three big-money events this summer.
