A man who supervises custodians at the federal courthouse in Jefferson City is facing charges of illegally selling firearms to felons.

Federal prosecutors announced Monday that 40-year-old Victor Nahum Vargas, of Jefferson City, was charged in a complaint with selling 11 firearms to a felon.

Vargas was indicted Saturday and remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing.

Information in an affidavit supporting the complaint indicates Vargas sold the 11 firearms for $8,100 to a man he knew to be a convicted felon. The man was working as a confidential source for law enforcement.

Prosecutors say Vargas was arrested immediately after law enforcement observed the transaction and all the weapons were recovered.
