Roy Dean Schnakenberg, 79, of Sedalia passed away Monday, October 28, 2013 at Four Seasons Living Center, Sedalia. He was born on August 28, 1934 in Marshall, MO a son of Roy O. Schnakenberg and Mary M. Bridges.

On September 17, 1955 in Concordia he was united in marriage to Wilma Flandermeyer, who preceded him in death on July 7, 1989. In Sedalia, on April 11, 1992 he was united in marriage to Lois Jane Lewis, who survives of the home.

Roy played basketball at Moberly Area Community College, where he was on the first National Championship team for the Greyhounds.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his yard and raising bird dogs.  He loved camping and was campground attendant at Osage Bluff campground.  Roy was a delivery truck driver for Tastee Bread and Banta Foods. He operated Dairy Queen from 1972-1981, where he was known as the “Ice Cream Man”.  After retiring in 1995, he enjoyed working as a crossing guard at Horace Mann Elementary.  Roy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sedalia.

He is survived by two daughters, Dana (David) Yeater of Sedalia and Andrea (Michael) Beasley of Dixon, MO; three sons, Jeff (Marcella) of Buffalo, MO, Daryl (Barbara) of Smithton and Bryan Schnakenberg of Sedalia; three stepchildren, Shirley (Rick) Jensen of Kansas, Kevin (Wendy) Hunter of Colorado and Lewis (Pamela) Hunter of Iowa;  two sisters, Jane Ann Famuliner of Oregon and Carol (Chuck “Sput”) Hilterbrand of Utah; nine grandchildren, Beth, Keith, Michael, Jacob, Benjamin, Tyler, Neil, Kayla and Brett; nine step grandchildren, Merciann, Lauriabeth, Jennilyn, Brent, Becka, Noah, Jessica, Christina and Heather; six great grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife Wilma, he was preceded in death by his stepson, George Hunter.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday, November 1, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church, Sedalia with Rev. Ted Francis officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia.

Pallbearers will be Michael, Jacob, Benjamin and Tyler Schnakenberg, Brent Hunter, Neil Yeater and Michael Beasley.

Honorary bearers will be Craig Ringwald, Keith Schnakenberg and Brett Marler-Norton.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church.
