Before last year it was that time of the year for most Royals' fans, when we're usually not all that interested in the World Series.  You have to go back to 1985 when the Royals were in the baseball finale, so unless there was an area team like the Cardinals playing in the fall classic, we were off doing other things.Thank goodness we had high school football to pull us through those nights. Of course it's a different story this year, with area teams continuing through the playoff brackets.

Smith Cotton hosts Belton, Lincoln hosts Windsor, and Sacred Heart travels to SW Livingston.  In Missouri Class 5 rankings state rankings, Smith Cotton sits in the # 9 spot. If they win tonight against the Pirates, the West Central Conference Champs will possibly play Carthage in a rematch of last year's game. If you remember, the SC Tigers traveled to Carthage and eventually lost that game, 28-6.  Lincoln, the # 5 team Class 1, hosts Windsor.  Lincoln beat Windsor 46-0 in the first meeting on Sept. 11.  The SC Gremlins, new to 8-man football, travels to SW Livingston.

So whether it's watching Alcides Escobar swinging at the first pitch in Shea Stadium or bundled up and sitting in the stands for an area high school game, it's nirvana for sports enthusiasts.
