Ruby Lena Stanfield, 92, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, August 3, 2012, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Stanfield was born May 6, 1920, in Florence, Missouri, the daughter of the late George and Eda Semkin. She married Raymond Dickey in 1939 and he preceded her in death. She married Bernard Stanfield in 1956 and he preceded her in death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Stanfield began her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company on January 27, 1950. She worked for them until her retirement in December 1978. She was a lifetime member of The Elks Auxiliary Sedalia Lodge #125 BPOE and served as President in 1981. She was also a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and served as President in 1974. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ her entire life.

Mrs. Stanfield enjoyed life to its fullest. She was a very social person and loved spending time with family and friends. She loved to travel and read books. She was an avid card player enjoying the games of Bridge and Pinochle with her friends. She also enjoyed playing Mahjongg. She was a very good seamstress, often making dance dresses for her daughters. Her giggle was contagious and it has been said that she did not meet a person that did not become her friend. She will be missed by many.

Mrs. Stanfield is survived by her son, Raymond Dickey Jr. (Elizabeth), of Hiawassee, Georgia; daughters, Josephine Weinert (David) and Denise Prather (Richard), of Lee's Summit, Missouri; step-son, Dr. Bernard Stanfield Jr. (Chantal), of West End, North Carolina; step-daughter, Brenda Stanfield (Bernard Cuddy), of Cambridge, Massachusetts; brother, Dr. Dennis Semkin, of Wickenburg, Arizona; and sister, Angeline Ehlers, of Chillicothe, Illinois. She was also a very loving grandmother and is survived by fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 9, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 4th and Vermont, Sedalia, with the Rev. Brady Abel officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Heckart Funeral Home
