Ruth Schmidt, 92 of Sedalia passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia.  She was born on May 3, 1921 in Sedalia, a daughter of J.W. and Lula (Singleton) Morrison.

On February 9, 1940 she was united in marriage to Marion E. Schmidt, who survives of the home.

At the age of 50, after raising her family, Ruth received her nursing degree from State Fair Community College in 1974.  She worked at Bothwell Hospital, several nursing homes in Sedalia and retired from Fairview Nursing Home at age 62.  She was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church and served in various capacities.  She crocheted layettes for all the new born babies in the church.  Ruth also enjoyed sewing, quilting and painting.

Ruth is survived by one daughter, Judy C. (Schmidt) Meyer and her husband Gary of Sedalia; one son, John R. Schmidt of Sedalia; three grandchildren, Angela (Meyer) Berry and her husband Neil, John Aaron Schmidt, Melissa (Schmidt) Johnson and her husband Jausch; one step grandson, Harry Hoffert and his wife Julie; five great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Marion E. Schmidt, Jr, a daughter-in-law, Sharon (Schmidt) Middleton and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 23, 2014 at New Hope Baptist Church, Sedalia with Rev. Duane Duchesne officiating.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Pallbearers will be Steve Craighead, Baxter Turner, Randy Akers, Jack Smith, Dale Webb and Warren Preuitt.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia.

Memorial contributions are suggested to New Hope Baptist Church in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
