Smith-Cotton Girls Basketball started its season Monday night with a 70-40 loss at Marshall.

Haley Wiskur led the Lady Tigers with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Darby Christian and Nia Hawkins each finished with 5 points. S-C (0-1) was down 38-12 at the half and cut the Owls' lead to 41-25 at the end of the third quarter.

"We played hard coming out of halftime," said S-C Head Coach Jonathan Tester, "but we couldn't sustain that momentum in the fourth."

Marshall was led by junior guard Kassidy Heying, who had 27 points. The Lady Tigers next play at 4 pm Nov. 27 in the Marshall tournament against Kirksville.

The Lady Tigers JV squad also fell to Marshall, 45-28. The Lady Tigers held a 18-16 lead at the half.

Sierra Koetting had 10 points for S-C, while Sabra Moon-Cason added 8. Marshall was led by Hannah Pomerenke with 12 points.
