S-C’s Weller Sets School Win Record with Tigers’ Soccer
The Smith-Cotton Tigers’ won the soccer game Wednesday, against St. Michael the Archangel school in Lee's Summit.
The Tigers won 7-0 and Head Coach Ethan Weller notched his 151st career victory, the most ever in the S-C boys soccer program’s history.
According to a press release from Sedalia 200, Weller passed former Tigers Head Coach Tom Knight, who had a record of 150-75-9 over his nine seasons leading the program, from 1981-1989. Earlier this year, Knight was inducted into the Missouri Coaches Hall of Fame.
Weller is in his ninth season as head coach of the S-C boys program, taking over in 2009 and he has racked up a record of 151-69-3 to date.
Smith-Cotton Athletic Director Rob Davis said: “A milestone like this at Smith-Cotton High School, which has such a rich soccer tradition, is a tremendous accomplishment for Coach Weller. It is a testament to his ability and consistency as a coach and serves as evidence to something I have believed for a long time: Coach Weller is one of the best soccer coaches in the state. Achieving 151 wins in less than nine full years is a tribute to him and to all the dedicated players he has coached during his tenure.”
The Tigers will finish regular-season play October 17 at Warrensburg, with district play beginning October 23.
