At 8:45 Saturday morning the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with the Saline County Sheriff’s Department and the Marshall Police Department reported a fatal accident involving a 2003 Ford E350 ambulance with a patient on-board. The accident occurred according to the police report as the ambulance driven by 21-year-old Samantha J. Garvin of Brunswick was westbound on Missouri Highway 240 approaching Missouri Highway 41 in a dense fog. A reportedly unknown tractor trailer was stopped in traffic on Missouri 240 waiting to turn South onto Missouri Highway 41. The accident report states a 2005 Peterbilt Dump Truck driven by 48-year-old Jamie H Powell was turning north on Marigold from Missouri 240 in front of the unknown tractor trailer. The ambulance changed lanes and overtook the unknown tractor trailer from the northbound shoulder, and collided nearly head-on with the Peterbilt. All of the injured victims were occupants of the ambulance. 77-year-old Gary Page of Slater suffered fatal injuries, and was taken to the Saline County Coroner’s office. Another occupant identified as 70-year-old John R. Martin of Booneville received serious injuries, while the driver of the ambulance received moderate injuries. Both injured victims were taken to the University Hospital in Columbia. The accident report also states a full reconstruction of the accident was being conducted.
