Each year the Missouri School Public Relations Association gives its members the opportunity to have their work evaluated by PR professionals and measured against industry standards.

In the 2018 MOSPRA Communications Awards Program, Sedalia School District 200 was recognized with an Award of Excellence in the Writing category for Communications Director Bob Satnan’s report on Team SCREAM at the FIRST Robotics World Championships in Houston.

The entry also tied for first place in the category with a submission from the Special School District of St. Louis County.

Awards of Excellence are earned by receiving at least 95 percent of the available judging points. The awards were handed out Friday, Oct. 26, at the MOSPRA Fall Conference in Independence.

Each submission in the program was judged by two PR professionals both inside and outside of the public education arena. One of the category judges of the Sedalia 200 entry wrote: “Wow. Just wow. I love how the story didn't just focus on the robot, but on the goal of the program for the students to learn problem solving, team work and more.”

Sedalia 200 also received an Award of Merit in the Photo/Photo Series category for images from the Pettis County Early Childhood Cooperative’s graduation ceremony, and another Award of Merit in Writing for a story explaining the role of instructional coaches. Entries receiving 82 percent to 94 percent of available judging points earn Awards of Merit.

MOSPRA President Paul Tandy said: “The MOSPRA Communications Awards Program not only recognizes exemplary school public relations programs, but also provides valuable feedback from public relations professionals to help our members continue to improve their work. Congratulations to this year's honorees on this well-deserved recognition."
