The SBW Career Advancement Committee named Karly McAllister and Tammie Thornton winners for the $800 scholarships and invited the two to speak at the September meeting, sharing their career goals and future education plans with SBW members.

“Because SBW is comprised of women in various stages of life, we understand the financial burden that pursuing a degree can have,” said SBW Career Advancement Committee Chair Robin Balke. “We also know the challenges women can face when they decide to go back to school to change or advance their career. We are happy to assist these ladies with scholarship to pursue their goals.”

McAllister is currently attending State Fair Community College working toward a degree in nursing, specifically pediatrics or cardiology. She plans to graduate in Spring 2019 and continue her education at Central Methodist University.

Thornton attends Central Methodist University pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science degree in education. She plans to teach middle school math and/or special education after she finishes her schooling.

SBW helps women achieve economic self-sufficiency by advancing their careers, building their businesses, and advocating for workplace equity. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m., the first Thursday of the month at the Sedalia Country Club. For more information, go to www.sedaliabwm.org.
