Applications are now being accepted for the 2017 Sedalia Christmas Light Contest.

According to a press release from the City of Sedalia, Xi Beta Upsilon, a chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, with the assistance of the Mayor Galliher and the City Council has announced the 37th annual outdoor Christmas Light Contest.

This year, there will be two different judging categories; one for residences and another for businesses!

Prizes will be awarded for the first, second, and third place winners.

First place will win $100. Second place will win $50, and third place will win $25.

The City says the deadline to enter the contest is 12:00 p.m., on Monday, December 11.

The judging will take place during the evening of Tuesday, December 12.

The press release says if you have not won a cash prize in the last three years, (2014, 2015, 2016), you may enter the contest by submitting an application to the Mayor’s Office, located at 200 S. Osage Ave. Applications can also be emailed to webmaster@cityofsedalia.com.

The City says that judging will be done on a point basis:
Lighting - 10 points
Eye appeal - 10 points
Originality - 10 points
Overall appeal - 10 points

It was noted that completed displays are to remain in place throughout the Christmas holiday season for the community to enjoy. The Christmas Lighting contest is limited to the Sedalia city limits.
