The Sedalia City Council took up the ordinance to allow inspections of downtown buildings at last night’s city council meeting (Dec. 3).

Sedalia City Administrator Gary Edwards started the meeting with a presentation on the ordinance as it was originally written, and then with the amendment Councilman Larry Stevenson of the 4th ward asked to be included, that would have kept inspectors out of private areas of the buildings. In the presentation, Edwards pointed out that including the amendment would weaken the ordinance and make it unworkable.

The ordinance with the amendment was defeated and was not brought to the floor, and the original ordinance was passed unanimously, but with a disclaimer from Stevenson.

After the meeting KSIS talked to Sedalia Mayor Elaine Horn who expressed her approval of the vote. Listen to our interview with Mayor Horn below.
